Madden is for the hardcore fans who want to take a deep dive into a franchise, uproot old talent and bring in fresh studs and then take them to the top managing every aspect along the way.
They're simply different styles of football games. The first thing that I was told from the head of NaturalMotion, Torsten Reil, was that Backbreaker is not trying to compete against Madden. Instead, physical objects on the field react to each other naturally, just as they would in reality.ĭuring E3 last week in Los Angeles, I sat down with a few of the folks from NaturalMotion to discuss Backbreaker's direction and to get a bit of hands-on time for myself. Powered by euphoria and morpheme physics technologies that have been seen in Grand Theft Auto IV as well as other titles, Backbreaker hopes to deliver a football experience totally free of canned animations. But those facts aren't stopping NaturalMotion from putting together a promising footballer of their own known as Backbreaker. EA has the NFL license, it has marquee names in the commentator booth and it has a massive advertising budget to throw at the game each and every year. It's no secret that Madden NFL is the current king of football videogames.
